I met Gabriella Carlucci – actress, producer and organizer of two film festivals in Spain and Serbia. She came in Romania at the invitation of Kristina Cepraga at BIFF 2017 looking forward to meeting people from Romanian film industry and culture. In the video interview we made yesterday Gabriella Carlucci speaks about her cultural projects and a special invitation for screen writers and directors to apply for the upcoming FIESTA: the taste of Italian Cinema. Call for proposals for screenplay writers and directors

Young talents are the future

PURPOSES

This call for proposals is included within the scope of the project “FIESTA: the taste of Italian cinema” (Palma de Mallorca, June 24th-­‐28th 2017). FIESTA is an international event organised by Mallorca International Film & Media Festival (MIFF), by the Abilis Association, promoted and supported by the Directorate General for Cinema of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. The event was organised in collaboration with Roma Lazio Film Commission for the Italian Associacion Abilis and the Mallorca International Film and Media Festival (MIFF) as well as Cinearte, the Independent Film Network Association for Spain.

The contest is aimed at fostering young talented professionals in the European film and audiovisual industry: a young film director and a young screenplay writer (between 18 and 25 years old), residing in one of the 27 European Member States bando or in candidate and potential candidate countries will be awarded. Submitted screenplays will be evaluated together with directors and screenwriters CV/résumés. The selection is aimed at fostering young artistic and creative talents. The evaluation procedure will consider the potentialities of the project to access international market.

Selected screenwriters and directors will have the opportunity to realize a short-­‐film based on their screenplay and will receive the financial support of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, a contribution for the post-­‐production from Roma Lazio Film Commission, as well as a contribution to production and distribution from the Spanish foundation Miff .Selected screenwriters and directors will also have the guarantee that two co-­‐producers will produce their short-­‐film. The promoting entities will appoint members to the Evaluation Committee, who will operate on their behalf, among the best experts in the field, both from Italy and from Spain.

OBJECT

This call for proposals is aimed at selecting unreleased screenplays for a fictional short-­‐film (documentaries will not be considered), with a running time between 15 and 60 minutes, submitted by a screenplay writer and a director.

TYPE AND AMOUNT OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The selected screenwriter and director pair will receive a prize consisting of the opportunity to realize a short-­‐film based on the submitted screenplay, directed by the selected director.

The prize is composed of:

A 25,000 Euro grant from the Italian Directorate General for Cinema of the Ministry of

Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism;

A post-­‐production contribution provided by Roma Lazio Film Commission; and

The production and the realization of the short film by one Italian and one Spanish film

production company, selected by the Abilis Association, based on the particulars of the

project.

BENEFICIARIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Both the director and screenwriter submitting the screenplay must meet the following

requirements:

-­‐ Age between 18 and 26 years old (at the expiration date of this call for proposals), as

demonstrated with a copy of the current identity card;

-­‐ Residence in one of the 27 EU Member Countries or in candidate and potential

candidate countries, as demonstrated with a copy of the current identity card; and

-­‐ Absence of any previous involvements in any screenplay writing or in the direction of

other film or audiovisual works diffused by the main distribution channels, namely film theatres and national TV broadcasters in the 27 EU Member Countries or in candidate and potential candidate countries.

It is also possible to apply as both screenwriter and film director.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Only unreleased fictional screenplays (hence, documentaries are not included) will be considered.

This call for proposals does not imply the fulfillment of any other requirements, or include any other awarding criteria related to the genre of the film work.

Artistic talent is a relevant criterion for the selection of young applicants, as well as the potentiality of the project to access international market.

The evaluation will also consider the quality of the screenplay (70% of the final score); and the CV or résumé of both the director and screenwriter (30% of the final score).

MANDATORY CONDITIONS

At least 60% of edited film shootings must be within the territory of Region Lazio.

Furthermore, credits and promotion messages, both on-­‐line and in paper, must include:

project title: “Noi Siamo il futuro, we are the future, somos el futuro”;

logos (including lettering) of the promoting entities: Directorate General for Cinema –

MiBACT; Roma Lazio Film Film Commission; MIFF -­‐ Mallorca International Film and

Media Festival; and Cinearte – Independent Film Network Association.

DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT WITH THE APPLICATION

In order to access the call for proposals, applications must include all documents specified here:

a storyline of the short-­‐film (not exceeding one page);

the screenplay;

the director’s CV or résumé;

the screenwriter’s CV or résumé;

possibly, the director’s show reel;

the director’s identity card, specifying date of birth and current residency; and

the screenwriter’s identity card, specifying date of birth and current residency.

All documents must be submitted in both English and Italian or English and Spanish. Applicants who do not speak Italian or Spanish as a native language can submit applications completed only in English.

SELECTION

Screenplays will be selected by the Evaluation Committee, composed of Italian and Spanish experts selected by the promoting entities and operating on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, the Roma Lazio Film Commission, and on behalf of Spanish institutions.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Applicants must submit projects no later than 2:00 pm on November 15th 2017. The applications must be submitted to the following email address: bandoitaliaspagna@beniculturali.it.
